- Find a small pebble – no bigger than 1/2″ in diameter, and without too many jagged edges.
- Put the pebble in one shoe. Walk around with it as you go about your day.
- Don’t tell anyone about the pebble, and every time you notice the pebble in your shoe or find it irritating, try to be a little less lost in what is going on around you and to notice the sensations in your body.
- At the end of the day, take the pebble out of your shoe and throw it away.
This experience is based on an old meditation practice designed to keep meditators from losing themselves in life when not on the pillow.
